Volkswagen continues to expand its offer of SUV vehicles with a coupe-style version that comes to revolutionize the B-SUV segment. The Taigo is the first coupe SUV of the German brand and is situated in a very competitive segment, such as compact crossovers. But it adds a new distinctive element, having a sportier body.
It is a model that, within the Volkswagen range, is located between the Volkswagen T-Cross and the Volkswagen T-Roc, sharing development elements with both, even with the Volkswagen Polo.
The new Volkswagen Taigo is available for 23,000 euros with two finishes, Life and R-Line, and three gasoline engines, with 95, 110, and 150 hp.
One of the main characteristics of the Volkswagen Taigo and which will scratch many sales within the segment, is its coupe design. SUVs are trendy, in general, in Europe, and if they have a coupe and sporty look, the better. In essence, the new Volkswagen Taigo is a T-Cross, but with a gentle drop from the roof and a lower ground clearance that gives it a more streamlined and dynamic image.
An essential aspect of the cars in the B-SUV segment is the level of customization they offer to attract customers. And this is also a feature in the Volkswagen coupe SUV. The brand provides eight different body colors and, with the sportiest R-Line trim, they can be combined with various packages.
The 'Roof Pack' adds the roof painted in black, while the ' Black Style ' adds the black color in the grille, the housings of the rear-view mirrors, the wheels, and the exhaust outlets' trims.
The interior can also be customized, adding a colored polo shirt to break with the hegemony of black. In addition, the 'Visual Green' package is available, which includes green stitching on the seats and decorative trim for the dashboard, and 'Visual Green glossy' trim on the doors.
Another great point in the Taigo is its technological equipment. The dashboard offers a very specialized vision, thanks to the touch screen of the multimedia system and the digital instrument panel.
The Virtual Cockpit can be 8 or 10.25 inches depending on the trim level. Four multimedia systems are available, each with screen size: Composition, with a 6.5-inch screen; Ready2Discover, with an 8-inch screen; Discover Media, includes a browser; and Discover Pro, with a 9.2-inch screen.
As for driving assistance systems is the IQ DRIVE Travel Assist, which combines active and predictive cruise control with the lane-keeping program. This device allows automatic driving of the car up to 210 km / h.
Typically, vehicles that opt for a coupe-style prioritize design and penalize habitability and practicality. However, in the case of Volkswagen Taigo, this does not happen.
The Volkswagen Taigo SUV advertises a trunk volume of 438 liters, a reasonably generous capacity for ts size, making it one of the largest in its class. In addition, the trunk has a floor that can be placed on two levels to create two differentiated spaces. However, the gate is not available with an automatic opening and closing system, not even as an option.
Without being a very varied range of engines (only three options), they are efficient and offer enough power levels. The 95 hp 1.0 TSI access version is combined with a five-speed manual gearbox. But the 1.0 TSI with 110 hp and the 1.5 TSI with 150 are associated with the DSG automatic transmission. In all cases, the traction is front.
One of the drawbacks of the Volkswagen Taigo is that the quality of the interior finishes can be improved. Not that it's terrible, but all surfaces are rigid plastic. There are no soft spots. The same goes for the T-Roc.
It squeaks a bit that a brand like Volkswagen, which is used to taking care of the interiors, has not been a little more careful in a model that, although it is located in the B-SUV segment, pretends to be the reference.
The second flaw is that it is a more expensive car than most of its rivals in the segment. The new Volkswagen Taigo's price starts at 23,000 euros. There are cheaper alternatives like the Peugeot 2008 or the Ford Puma.
