At first glance, the similarities to the Polestar 3 in the new Volvo EX90 are unmistakable. The wheelbase of the Volvo subsidiary's luxury SUV, which was presented just a few days ago, is identical, yet there is one crucial difference. The Volvo EX90 electric SUV is not only 14 centimeters longer but also has a third row of seats. There is space for up to seven people inside the electric SUV. The Polestar 3 has only five seats on board.
The Volvo EX90 electric SUV is equipped with all-wheel drive, i.e., one electric motor per axle. The slightly weaker model achieves a system output of 300 kW (408 hp), the more powerful performance version 380 kW (517 hp), with a 770 or 910 Nm torque. The Volvo EX90 electric SUV has a 111 kWh high-voltage battery for the longest possible range. That is enough to drive the electric SUV for an average of 585 or 580 kilometers, depending on the model selected.
The energy store can be recharged based on a 400-volt system with a peak output of up to 250 kW (similar to Polestar Precept). This allows the battery to be charged from 10 to 80 percent in 30 minutes at best, promises Volvo. The manufacturer grants an eight-year guarantee on the battery – a maximum of up to a mileage of 160,000 kilometers. According to the manufacturer, you can accelerate the 2.8-ton SUV from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds. The performance model manages the same sprint in an even faster 4.9 seconds.
The standard equipment includes an extensive sensor and camera system. In addition to five radars and eight cameras, 16 ultrasonic sensors are also installed. A lidar system is also mounted on the roof with a range of 250 meters to use high-resolution environment detection via a laser scan. Objects are detected hundreds of meters in advance, giving more time to inform, act, and avoid. If warnings are not heeded, an automatic emergency-stopping system intervenes to prevent an accident in the best possible scenario.
In the interior, you can look forward to ambient lighting, among other things. And not just in the front of the vehicle but also at the back. The automatic air conditioning allows temperature regulation in four zones, including the second row of seats. A parking heater and a heat pump are also factory-installed. The electric car's operating system is based on Android Automotive, which means it allows, among other things, the use of Google Maps on a 14.5-inch touchscreen. The driver can use a second 8-inch info display behind the steering wheel. In addition, a head-up display is part of the standard equipment, as is an audio system from Bose with 940 watts of power and 14 speakers.
The new Volvo EX90 premium SUV with integrated 5G mobile connection will initially only be built in the USA from next year.
